Sensors in Motion
Sensors in Motion is a Caltech/Jet Propulsion Lab spinout developing inertial-grade, high-accuracy MEMS gyroscopes. SIM’s MEMS gyros are a disruptive innovation in the field of inertial systems and are the world’s most accurate MEMS gyros- unique MEMS structures fabricated using volume silicon wafer processing techniques. We are producing devices having .005 deg/hr bias stability and .002 deg/rt-hr angular random walk. This performance is far superior to any other MEMS gyro produced anywhere in the world and is comparable to performance of Ring Laser and FOG gyros that are 50X larger and much more expensive. Megapulse, acquired by UrsaNav in 2013, was the worldwide sole source supplier of solid-state transmitters for the Loran and eLoran terrestrial radio-navigation system. Products include Loran transmitters (up to 2 Megawatt power), GPS/Loran receivers, H-field antennas, survey, timing and monitor receivers, navigation simulators and signal generators. The company provided turnkey Loran chain services including site survey, system engineering, design, installation, training, warranty, maintenance, depot repair and logistics. Products are used in air, sea, river, and harbor navigation and traffic management.

Peregrine Semiconductor, acquired by Murata in 2014 for $471M, is the leading supplier of radio frequency components based on its proprietary silicon-on-sapphire semiconductor process technology. The sapphire insulating substrate of these ICs enables Peregrine to deliver RF components of extraordinary noise figure and linearity. Initial products are in RF switches and military components, but the company is ramping into high complexity components for cell phones and various RF and communications platforms. New Infrared Technologies
Madrid based New Infrared Technologies (NIT) is a supplier of uncooled midwave-IR detectors (1-5 microns) fabricated using Vapor Phase Deposition. Products include single-element detectors, linear arrays and imaging FPAs. NIT’s Matrix 1024 is the world’s first commercial uncooled MWIR imager based on PbSe. These MWIR sensors are demonstrating detection rate of 1,700 images per second, with a path to 20,000 fps in the near future. The detectors are Si-CMOS compatible and enable monolithic integration with CMOS circuitry. NIT’s PbSe detectors are 30% the cost, 8% the size and provide 10X the image frame rate of the most widely used MWIR detectors. Target applications include gas and explosion detection & characterization, muzzle flash detection, machine vision and control and munitions fuzing.
